NZ Wine Exports is an independent data journalism project tracking New Zealand's official wine export statistics.

Data Source

All data is sourced from Stats NZ's "Overseas merchandise trade (HS10 by country)" monthly CSV releases. We specifically track Harmonised System (HS) code 2204 (Wine of fresh grapes, including fortified wines).

Export values are recorded as Free On Board (FOB) in New Zealand Dollars (NZD). This represents the value of goods at the New Zealand port of loading, excluding the cost of international freight and insurance.

Ingestion Process

Data is ingested automatically daily at 07:00 Pacific/Auckland.

Stats NZ publishes overseas trade data monthly, usually around the 24th of the following month. The latest month is released as Provisional and is subject to revision in subsequent releases. Our ingestion process automatically updates historical periods with revised figures as they become available.
